Dealing with Negative Energy

In our lives we all deal with negative energy. It can come from someone in your circle of friends and family or a stranger, it can come from a place or it can even come from outside. Sometimes we don’t realize what or whom we’re being influenced by it until it’s too late. Our day can be completely ruined because we don’t realize we’ve been influenced by negative energy from around us. So what can we do to fix this? How can we make sure that negative energy doesn’t have such a strong effect on us?

When the negative energy comes from an outside source, try to be an observer. The first step is realizing what happens and finding out where it comes from. Acknowledge that someone is sending off negative vibes and that they’re getting to you.
When you realize that someone else is sending off this negative energy there’s two things you can do. Distance yourself completely from that person and don’t pay any attention. But this may actually still cause negative energy to cling to you, whether from the original person or from your own guilt of not being more helpful. You see, by ignoring the situation you’re simply shielding yourself rather than countering the negative energy with positive energy.

“By ignoring the situation you’re simply shielding yourself rather than countering the negative energy with positive energy.”

And that’s how we get to the second option: sending positive energy into the universe. You know the negative energy isn’t grounded in anything other than that person. So what’s the best thing to do? Try to help the source. The person sending of negative energy may have been having a bad day, they may be in a fight with a loved one or have troubles at work. Whatever the problem, try to approach the person that’s sending negativity with light and love and positive vibes. The same way that their energy can influence your mood, your energy can do the same for them. Only this time, it’s love and positivity we send out (and receive). A kind smile or a little help can completely turn someone’s day around.

When the negativity comes from yourself, we should accept that it’s part of life. You can’t be super positive all the time. Sometimes you won’t be 100% fine, but that’s okay. You’re human.
Be aware of the fact that it’s happening, and if you’ve dealt with depression (or depression-like issues) make sure you monitor yourself. After a day or two it’s time to really pick yourself up again. Personally, I notice this when it happens and I will reach out to someone. Even if it’s simply going out to lunch with a friend. It’s all about breaking the pattern, bursting the bubble. Don’t ignore the negative energy, if you do that it will end up consuming you while you’re trying to look away. Let the darkness pass, it’s part of balance. Just don’t get caught up in it.
And once again, send out positivity. Even if you don’t like the way you were acting (or whatever else it may be) give yourself some love. You are growing and you are great. And you should give yourself some love and room to breathe when you feel you need it.

“Don’t ignore the negative energy, if you do that it will end up consuming you while you’re trying to look away. Let the darkness pass, it’s part of balance. Just don’t get caught up in it.”

Sometimes all of this is very hard. It can be difficult to send out love when someone (possibly yourself) is overwhelming you with anger and sadness. You can enter a defeatist state. You may say you’ve tried everything, but really only did so for a day or two, already believing it wouldn’t work. This negativity will only get you down, and sometimes people around you, too.
So focus on the positive; you try. That’s all you can do. And you learn, so that maybe next time will go better. But even if you don’t succeed you can still give yourself some love. Take a bath, diffuse some essential oils, listen to some music and smile.

As they say ‘you get what you give’, so give love and that’s what you’ll get in return.

love, isabelle

Additional advice:
I have also been wearing an amazonite crystal around my neck every day. It helps keep negative energy away and I have to say; I have been really happy and positive, lately. Amazonite is a beautiful, comforting, light blue. You can cleanse the crystal by putting it on a selenite stick or by using the moonlight. Amazonite has quickly become one of my favorite crystals and it may be good to you, too.

    • Yeah I totally understand this. Some people are just really stuck in a negative spiral and don’t realize that it also affects the people around them. I use humor, too. And when I instinctively want to respond in a less-than-kind way I try to remind myself that even though I can’t control their state of mind, I can control mine. And I tell myself that their anger may not be directly caused by me. It’s hard to do but I think it can become a habit after a while.
